Summer presents such a conundrum—you want that awesome bikini bod, but the weather is far too enjoyable to spend your days toiling away in a dank, smelly gym. If this sounds familiar, it’s time to take action and relocate your workouts to a much better gym: the great outdoors.
If you aren’t sure whether working out in nature is the best option for you, here are a couple of reasons you should reconsider:
A Breath of Fresh Air
Working out outside can provide you with a breath of fresh air in more ways than one. For starters, the air outdoors is literally fresher than the air you breathe in a stale, sweat-filled gym. (Even if you live in a city, working out in a green space like a park or lakefront can offer excellent fresh air).
Second, exercising in the great outdoors can jolt you out of your work out stupor—you can enjoy new scenery each day and a new outdoor gym by simply heading to a new park.
Getting Over Your Self-Consciousness
Far too many women feel self-conscious about working out. Maybe there’s that one person at the gym who makes you really uncomfortable, or that one super fit woman who always seems to make more progress than you. If you feel at all self-conscious at the gym, working out in nature might be the perfect solution—but not for the reason you might think.
Exercising outdoors is not about running away from your insecurities, it’s about helping you overcome them. Once you’ve jogged outside and realized that pedestrians and passerby’s are not staring at you, that you’re one of many people just trying to stay healthy, you’ll feel less pressure to look a certain way or reach a certain goal. You should be exercising for yourself, not for an audience;
