Yoga is a great way to gain inner strength and peace. But it can be sometimes overwhelming if you are just starting out. There are literally hundreds of different poses and it is hard to see which poses you should choose.
The important thing when
staring out in yoga is to choose simple positions that you can easily take on. With more experience you can gradually try more challenging poses. We have picked a standing pose, a seated pose and a rested pose to start with.
Probably one of the best know
standing poses in yoga is the Downward Dog, also called Adho Mukha Svanasana in Sanscrit.
It often is the first pose that you will learn when
starting yoga classes . To perform the
Downward Dog you start sitting with your hips on your knees and your hands underneath your shoulders touching the ground. Now start straightening the legs while stabilizing yourself with your hands.
It may be easier if you bend your knees initially. When you are done you should be forming an inverted "v" with your buttocks up high.
The next pose everybody has seen and many already perform unknowingly as a comfortable way of sitting down. It is called
Cobbler's Pose, or Baddha Konasana in Sanskrit.
To start you sit down with your legs stretched out in front of you. Straighten your spine. Then bend your knees and put your feet together until the outer edges of your feet are pushed together closely. Use your hands to support your position.
And finally an great resting pose, the child's pose, also called
Balasana in Sanskrit. You start out with the downward dog as described earlier. Drop your knees until they touch the floor.
Once you are safely on the ground spread your knees as far out as you can and move your belly between your knees until it too touches the floor.
As long as you don't choose too challenging
poses yoga for beginners i s a great way to relax and start building your inner force. Give these poses a try and don't give up if at first you don't succeed.
