According to (CDC) Centers for disease control and prevention the numbers are staggering. Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). The national obesity trends show more than a third or almost 38% of U.S. Adults are obese. Approximately 12.5 million adolescents ages 2 – 19 are obese.

What is obesity and problems it causes


Obesity is a problem – more and more people are getting fatter which gets to the point of obesity, and this is unhealthy. When do you ask yourself the question what is obesity? What is the first image that comes to your mind? Someone that is quite large right? Well, that is the case a lot of the time, but there are many of people who are obese and think they are just slightly overweight. Unfortunately, this is in my opinion part of the problem.

This is why we should be conscientious of our weight and know what our BMI is, so we can face this problem that is growing and causing us be very unhealthy. I ask myself, am I obese? I also ask myself what obesity is? Okay, I assumed what I said earlier that I envisioned a very fat person, well let me reiterate. That is not always the case, and there are people who carry weight well and look okay but are obese.

We should not brush it under the rug and shrug it off. Obesity is a problem, and we have the resources to address the problem, but it’s the self-discipline that is very difficult to control. Let's take a look at what BMI is and get a better understanding of what BMI represents. BMI is an abbreviation that we use referring to the Body Mass Index, this is a measurement in which according to the formula we can calculate body fat.

It’s important to know where your BMI number is and to make sure it’s not over the recommended number. A high BMI is considered a health risk. It’s important to remember these are guidelines set by years of study and research.
