Fast food has become the latest trend in today’s society. It is said that obesity is reaching an all time high and the main reason for it is the consumption of fast foods. Not only are these thing laden with calories that can pack on the pounds, they offer very little in the way of proper nourishment.
Another way of falling into the
weight gain trap is to eat while you are on the move. Eating a bag of chips while running from one task to the next is not a substitute for
a balanced meal. Even foods that are good for us, such as turkey, is loaded with preservatives, salt, and fillers when purchased from the local deli.
This can be even more difficult for the working mother. Not many would look forward to making a meal when they get home from a days work but there are ways to get the job done. A crock pot can come in very handy. Proven to be safe and reliable, nutritional ingredients can be added in the morning and when you arrive home, a cooked meal awaits you and the family.
Another time saver is to cook double or triple quantities whenever you can. One can be served that day and the extras can be frozen to make an evenings meal at a later date. Most importantly, a woman can sit down with her family and enjoy talking about all of the days activities. Scientific tests have proven that eating in this manner automatically cuts back on the number of calories a person will ingest.
Preparing foods that are naturally low in fat such as fish, chicken, and turkey should make up the majority of meals. These foods can be prepared in so many different ways they will always be welcomed for dinner. They can be prepared by broiling, baking, or slow cooking and leave the fried foods for special occasions only. If you are preparing a fried food item, using extra virgin olive oil will cut way back on the amount of fat it has.
Keep plenty of fruits on hand for a quick and easy snack. Foods loaded with sugar are quickly turned into pounds because the body cannot use it all. Carbohydrates such as bread and potatoes can also sneak up on you. In the body, carbohydrates turn into sugar. So, it does not matter in what form we ingest sweets, the body recognizes it as the same thing.
Taking part in and sticking with some sort of exercise program will keep extra pounds at bay. Make it a family affair and pat yourself on the back for all the healthy habits that you are passing on to your children.
Exercise not only reduces your weight but it keeps things such as cholesterol and triglycerides from becoming too high.
The whole idea of nutrition for the adult woman and her entire family can be summed up in one word; moderation. Don’t feel overwhelmed by some diet plan that you know you won’t be able to keep. There is nothing wrong with a hamburger or doughnut, as long as they are not eaten everyday. A glass of wine is said to be good for your heart, but that does not mean you can drink it to excess. Maintain a food plan that has an abundant supply of
fruits and vegetables , and a minimal supply of sweets, carbohydrates, and red meats. Allow yourself a treat now and then. You’ve earned it.
