Keep Extremities Covered
In cold weather, your body’s blood flow tends to be concentrated in your core. This is why your overall temperature can rise when you exercise outdoors in the winter, while your hands, toes and ears remain freezing. Keep your whole body safe from frostbite, by wearing a breathable hat or headband over your ears, and making sure you have wind-blocking gloves.
Keep Layers Thin
It’s important to strike a balance between overdressing and not dressing warmly enough, so always check the temperature online before you head out to start exercising. If your workout outfit is too hot, you may end up sweating more than you’d hoped and be in for an uncomfortable jog. The best option is to wear multiple layers of thin fabrics, which allows you to shed layers easily depending on the temperature and how intensely you exercise. Find base-layer clothing made from spandex-polyester blends, polypropylene and merino wool, because they help keep moisture away from the skin.

Keep On Treading
Another aspect of
outdoor exercising is the type of shoe you wear, which may differ slightly from your indoor gym kicks. Even if you’re just running on paved roads, choose a shoe designed for any surface. Trail shoes are great for keeping active outside during the winter when normally tame terrain can turn into a snowy surface. If you don’t want to splurge for a new pair of shoes designated for winter wear, try a product like Yaktrax, which runs for about $30 can add traction to any pair of running shoes, and work similarly to chains on your tires in wintery weather.
